Abyss was a hardcore band from Rastede, Germany. They had a pretty scarce but golden discography including the ST 7", the split 2x7" with Iconoclast and a compilation track. Abyss plays loud and emotional hardcore that encapsulates the sound of the german scene at the time. They sound much alike the bands in the Bremen scene in particular yet; they clearly had influences from label-mates like Age and Rusty James. "Not" is a highlight on the 7", very powerful and catchy, with lyrics that you can sing along to. They showed some progression in their time as a band, the tracks on the Iconoclast split are very different sounding and heavier than their previous releases. Abyss was also on Love records, which is one of my favourite german labels of all time, boasting an impressive line up of bands such as Age, Rusty James, Assay, Springhill and Kassiopiea. Enjoy.
