Smallmouth were a post-rock/post-hardcore band from Toronto, Ontario. If Slint stayed together and got weirder and more dissonant they would probably sound pretty close to Smallmouth. Smallmouth were mainstays in the Ontario math/post-rock scene along with Pecola and they really made some truly interesting and bravely experimental music.
My favourite release from them has to be the demo tape; I was lucky enough to snag it for only 8$ CAD, Its probably the most cohesive and consistent release out of the three. Again, I can't stress how much this band sounds like a Slint offshoot, Smallmouth is a complete gem and worthy of more recognition.
