Single File Line - Discography (1994-1995)

Single File Line (sometimes styled as singlefileline) was a hardcore band from Rapid City, South Dakota. Although they only managed to release a two song 7" on the excellent Bloodlink Records, Single File Line was well known and influential during their active period. The band had an incredible take on the start-stop post-rock influenced style of "emocore" that was popular at the time and used unconventional instruments (for punk rock) like flute in their songs.

Single File Line made sprawling, atmospheric and impactful music that was incredibly refreshing compared to the breakdown heavy, major label hardcore that dominated the scene. The bands shortest song clocks in at 6 minutes long, showing how they were unafraid of being different from the rest of the hardcore scene. They have a great cover of "The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot, another strange yet fitting choice for the band. One could go as far as to call this band a "post-emo" band as they sprang off in a completely different direction that their peers.

I'm not entirely sure if I have this bands entire collected works, if anyone has more by them i'd love to hear.
