The Trigger Quintet/The Desert Jet Set/Bucketfull - Discography (1993-1997)
Throughout the 90s Austin, Texas natives Tim O' Neill, Jeb Beatty and Mike Nogroski collaborated together in three excellent hardcore / emo bands. I have decided to include all three bands in this post as they have the same members and short discographies.
Another band named The Mayday Quartet may have something to do with these guys. It was the fabled inchworm. records #8 that never saw an "official release".
This unreleased 7" is one of my biggest ISO's and if anyone has more information on it, please leave a comment or shoot me an email!
Bucketfull (1993)
Starting with the earliest incarnation of these projects, Bucketfull was an indie/punk band from Austin.
Bucketfull had the least developed sound of the three bands, yet the project still showed lots of promise and potential. They mirrored the sound of other popular "midwest emo" style bands at the time, with softly sung vocals, twinkly guitars and an overall upbeat and positive vibe. This 7" was another antique market find that I was really glad to have dug out.
The Trigger Quintet was a hardcore band from Austin. The band formed after the dissolution of Bucketfull and is probably my favourite of the three projects. The Trigger Quintet is, frankly, an essential emocore band. They had everything, powerful driving melodies, great vocals and songs that immediately hooked you with infectious grooves and catchy lyrics. The bands sound evolved considerably from the Bucketfull days; it is much more driven and hardcore influenced in nature, trading softly sung vocals for shouts and screams.
The Trigger Quintet mixed hardcore with more classic guitar/rock sensibilities, much like Ordination Of Aaron, to create a unique and impressive sound. "Senseless In Drowning" is an immediate classic on first listen and one of my favourite tracks in the genre. They also featured on 2 incredible compilations, Slave Cut's "Use This Coupon" and Actionboy 3000's "Ground Rule Double".
The Desert Jet Set was a hardcore band from Austin. They were formed sometime after the end of The Trigger Quintet and boasted a similar, yet more introspective sound. The production on this 7" is excellent and I really love the spacey-sounding guitar riffs and intense drumming. This 7" was released on one of my favourite labels of all time inchworm. records and fits right in with the rest of the catalog.
