Hoover - Discography (1992-1998)

Hoover was an angular post-hardcore band from Washington, DC who were active from 1992-1994 and reformed in 1997 to release another EP. Their discography consists of two 7"s, a split 7" with Lincoln, and two 12"/CDs. they also appeared on the All the President's Men compilation 12".

Hoover was truly one of the best at what they did, expertly mixing hardcore with post-rock while also fostering a hint of "emo" and what would be later known as math rock. Hoover does have a similar sound to some other Dischord stuff and are often compared to Fugazi (I personally don't agree) but Hoover really distinguished itself from the scene. They fit in simultaneously with the DC scene of the early 90s while also pulling influence from elsewhere in the states.

Interestingly, three of the four members of Hoover shared vocals equally. Members of the band also went on to form June Of 44, The Crownhate Ruin and Regulator Watts (named after the Hoover song), all of which did not let down. June of 44 maybe being the most well known opted for a bit more of an indie rock style of post-hardcore like Rodan and the Crownhate Ruin slowed things down even more and went for whinier vocals.

Hoover is on of my all time favourite bands and despite being on Dischord Records, I don't hear them talked about nearly enough. They seem to fly under the radar as a lesser known Fugazi but they are so much more than that. Every time I listen to their music I seem to like it even more which says a a lot about a band.
