Death Of Marat was a 3 piece post-punk band from Phoenix, Arizona. Somewhere at the intersection of Unwound, Clikitat Ikatowi, and Killing Joke lies Death Of Marat. The band was playful, experimental and intense in their songwriting and tight knit, technical nature. Starting off under the name "Mars Observer Mission" Death Of Marat made leaps and bounds in their songwriting and creativity with every release, culminating in their 2002 CD release "All Eyes Open".
Death Of Marat combines elements of hardcore, math-rock, post-punk, goth rock and space rock to create a completely new and refreshing take on the late 90s brand of experimental punk. Drummer/Vocalist Jef Wright completely blows me away every time I listen to this band, it's insane to me how he played such technical and lightning fast drum rhythms while also singing. If you get a chance, make sure to check out Jef's drumming in Sea Of Cortez as well, I honestly think he is one of the most underrated drummers of the 90s and he absolutely murders each track he plays on.
As far as I know, this is the first time the Death Of Marat discography has been available online since 2011, so enjoy and don't let them be forgotten again! Big thank you to Jef Wright for talking to me about the band, sending me some records and making the official bandcamp! You rule man!
