Tiger 100 - Discography (1993-1995)

Tiger 100 was a short-lived punk band from Ann Arbor, Michigan which included a member of Death Cab For Cutie and Detroit band Easy Action. They only ever released one 7" as well as a demo tape, but they have quite an extensive amount of unreleased work including some live recordings. I don't know much about their live shows, however they opened for Lungfish in 93 or 94.

Tiger 100's music was very noise-rock driven with elements of post-rock and a distinctly DIY punk touch. Their actual 7" leans more into the indie/punk sound while their demo and unreleased work is super noisy and distorted. Their guitar work almost reminds me of Slint at times but with more noisy elements. They are a tough band to describe overall because their sound varies a lot from track to track, some are slow and moody, (August Wedding Day) some are super noisy (Money Mississippi) and others are much heavier and more punk-sounding (Drunk Tank)

I had never heard of Tiger 100 until recently when a friend and fellow punk record collector showed it to me and sold me his copy of the 7" (Thanks Greg!). I really liked the 7" so I went looking for more of their work and found an hour long youtube video of their unreleased and live tracks. Their 7" packaging is all handmade with a stamped paper bag sleeve, stamped inner sleeve and a pasted-on piece of paper with their name on the cover.

Above are: photos of Tiger 100 by Anthony Cressey, shot on Canon AE-1 Program at Trumbull Theatre in Detroit, April 17th, 1993 (or 94) where they opened for Lungfish.

As a side note, if you are ever in Montréal, check out Greg's store Pump Up The Volume Records located in La Marché Noir Vintage and I promise you won't be disappointed!
