The Buzzing Bees - Discography (2002-2004)

The Buzzing Bees were an indie/emo band from Calgary, AB. The band was active in the early aughts releasing two CDs and one 7". The Buzzing Bees featured members of The Day After Tomorrow Band and Slow Kids Playing Fast, both also out of Calgary.

The Buzzing Bees were an example of the punk-giving-way-to-emo movement that began to take over the all ages scene in Calgary beginning in the late 90s and gaining popularity through the early oughts. Despite the genre never really taking off in Calgary's music scene, there are countless bands that did their part in creating this unique punk/emo sound including Porter Hall, The Corta Vita, Nine Miles To Morgan, Atticus and more.

The Buzzing Bees created a sound that mixed elements of punk, emo and indie rock in a combination that could be compared to more contemporary and well known bands like Tigers Jaw. They played a big part in the all ages scene in Calgary, playing shows at the famed (in Calgary) Multicultural Centre for a variety of people ranging from tweens to teens to 20 somethings.

Much like other emo bands of their time, The Buzzing Bees had humorously long song titles, some of my favourites being: If Someone Offers You a Penny For Your Thoughts, Ask To See The Penny First or Sometimes I Doubt Your Commitment To Sparkle Motion, a clever reference to and one of my favourite quotes from, Donnie Darko.

This is Canadian Wasteland's 300th post, which is why we wanted to do a band from our home town of Calgary, Alberta. We would like to sincerely thank all of our readers and contributors and anyone who has ever helped us with anything! We couldn't do it without you.
