Autonomia Indigena / Rabia - Discography (1993-1994)

Autonomia Indigena, previously named Rabia, was a hardcore band from OrlĂ©ans, France. They were active in the early 90s and their 7" under Autonomia Indigena appeared on Kathleen Simonneau from Anomie's label, Ape Records. The band released one split 7" with Sea Shepherd under Rabia and one S/T 7" under Autonomia Indigena. They also had tracks appearing on four compilations.

Autonomia Indigena has a bit of a different sound than most of the hardcore coming out of France at this time. They share the politically driven messaging of many other French bands but have a slightly more classic punk/hardcore sound than say, Weep's gut wrenchingly sad sound or Alcatraz's experimental jazz influence. If I had to compare them to something I'd compare Autonomia Indigena to Ivich, yet they still sound distinctly different, Ivich leaning toward the punk sound and Autonomia Indigena going for a thrashier almost crust influenced sound.

The French hardcore scene ever ceases to impress me, there is so much variation in sound yet they all kind of fit together in some ways. There are so many obscure bands that fly under the radar too, this one included. Thankfully their 7" being released on Ape Records allowed me to discover them and since then its been up there on my most wanted records. If you're a fan of the French scene and haven't heard Autonomia Indigena yet, you're missing out!
