Weep - Discography (1994-1998)

Weep was an emocore band from Bordeaux, France that existed for a short period in the mid 1990s. While active, they released a 7" and two demo tapes. As far as I'm aware, the band members were all only ever in this band.

Despite a fairly short active period, Weep is one of the quintessential French emo bands in my opinion. Their songs, especially the tracks on their demo tapes, are drenched in anger, pain and emotion to the point of sending chills up your spine. In one track on their second demo tape, the vocalist, Sebastien Lacoste, quite literally breaks down sobbing mid track and if that's not the most "emo" song to exist I'm not sure what is.

Weep is one of the most raw and emotional hardcore bands I have ever listened to, their songs come from a place of personal pain and you can tell. So many hardcore bands have that angry sound and put on a good show but lack the actual emotional and personal drive behind the lyrics. Weep is not one of them.

The French definitely knew how to do emo-hardcore right as Weep are just one of many incredible bands out of France at the time. If you like Weep, another few favourite French bands of mine are Ivich, L'invention De Morel, Anomie and Fingerprint.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate any scans of their demo tapes aside from the cover image on Discogs. If anyone happens upon them I'd greatly appreciate you sending them my way!
