L'Invention de Morel - Discography (1995-1997)

L'Invention de Morel was an emo/hardcore band from Paris, France that existed from December of 1995 to May of 1997. Thomas Guillanton of the band was also a member of similar sounding French bands Undone, Finger Print, Jasemine and Ananda. L'Invention de Morel released one demo EP during this time, four out of the five tracks of which would later be released as a 7" on US label, Unfortunate For The Fortunate Records. The same label also released one of Ananda's 12"s which also included members of Undone, Finger Print and Jasemine.

Despite their short lived existence, L'Invention de Morel's 7" remains one of the best emo/hardcore releases out of France at this time as well as one of my all time favourite 7"s. They definitely have the distinct French emo sound, which is quite different from the emo/hardcore out of the US around the same time. My favourite track of theirs is "S'Approprier", and I love the sample of the spoken word/rap song "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" by Gil Scott-Heron at the end.

L'Invention de Morel is definitely a must-hear for any fans of French hardcore or emo in general. You can always tell a band is great in my opinion when they only have a few songs and yet stand out as one of the genre defining bands of their time which is definitely the case with L'Invention de Morel.
