Assfactor 4 - Discography (1992-1998)

Assfactor 4 was a hardcore band from Columbia, South Carolina. I put off making this discography for a while because I really wanted to get it right; asides from the 400 Day Headache comp track, I have compiled every Assfactor 4 song (that I know of) here in FLAC. The Blogged & Quartered project has also made a great Assfactor 4 discography post that can be found here and downloaded here (320kbps). As mentioned on the B&Q blog, most of the AF4 members are still actively making music in a few different bands. Some of the members briefly reunited in 2016 as Birdchest and released an excellent EP that can be downloaded here.

Assfactor 4 was an incredibly unique and influential band that jumbled up elements of a ton of different genres of punk to create a voracious and electrifying sound. Their sound was heavily influenced by the "screamo" scene at the time; including bands like Heroin, Merel and Rorschach (Charles from Rorschach even did guest vocals for the song Hey Stinky). On the surface they sound closest to a fast-core band with instances of the "screamo" sound mixed in; but pay closer attention and you can hear influences from across the board (with even some pop-punk thrown into the mix). When they formed in 1992 they had a much slower sound, overtime they evolved into a crazy, lightning fast punk band and rerecorded most of their old songs at a much faster pace.

Assfactor 4 was also a touring machine during their active period, playing countless shows with other influential hardcore bands and leaving behind a wealth of live material that showcases their enthralling energy and endless rigor. The insert in the 1995 LP is one of my favourite inserts ever, it has so many cool bands mentioned on the thanks list on the back and includes a billion awesome posters. I have no idea how their drummer managed to play the songs he did while also screaming/singing, the rest of the band also displays this talent of singing while playing at a breakneck pace and not missing a beat. Apparently they were great guys too, voted "Coolest Band To Hang Out With" in the 1995 HeartattaCk readers poll.

Unfortunately I don't think this discography will ever be complete; I have heard of a demo tape and also a tape compilation called "Tatterfrock" that they featured on so theres at least a few tracks missing.
