Calm - Discography (1994-1996)

Calm was a post-hardcore / indie rock band from San José, California. They were active for a few years in the mid 90s featuring members of Mohinder, Indian Summer, Duster, Eiafuawn and Jenny Piccolo after the break up of Calm. During their time as a band they released one 12" album and two 7"s.

Calm has a sound that is very hard to describe accurately without hearing it. They meld elements of post-hardcore with math rock and the slow, spacey sound that Duster perfected. Calm simply refuses to comply to any one genre and instead mixes a multitude of sounds together that somehow work in a way that's unforgettable.

If I had to describe their sound in comparison to other bands, they sound like if Duster and Indian Summer were combined. The noisy, post-hardcore influence of Indian Summer and the muted, distant sounding vocals of Duster working together to create a haunting soundscape.

Indian Summer and Duster are some of my personal favourite bands but also some of the best of the 90s. Their very different sounds might not seem like they could work together at all but Calm is proof that they work together perfectly.

Unfortunately their records are extremely hard to come by and pricey so we do not own of have access to high quality scans for their releases. Numero remastered their work digitally so hopefully one day they will reissue their discography on vinyl and make it more accessible.
