Ribbon Fix - Discography (1996-1998)

Ribbon Fix was a indie rock/emo band from San Fransisco, California. The band featured the incredibly talented Mark Rodgers who was also a member of the bands Shroomunion and Perilisium Cantos. Overall Ribbon Fix is one of the most overlooked indie/emo bands of the period, even though they are a very well formed and intricate musical group. At times, Ribbon Fix can sound like an explosive and careening "emocore" outfit, much like Shroomunion (particularly on songs like "Liquorbed"). While at other times they sound more along the lines of indie/emo groups like Mineral and Strictly Ballroom.

Songs like "One Last Cigarette" and "East And Down Aways" showcase the bands attention to detail and emotional depth. Rodger's guitarwork is consistently sublime and works in tandem extremely well with both Rodgers and Andi Camp's distinctive male/female dual vocals. The band obviously paid a lot of attention to song structure and impactful start/stop rhythms, creating some of the most solid and impactful work that I have heard come out of the "emo" scene. I love the hidden Psychedelic Furs cover on their second album, in fact I love just about every Ribbon Fix song.

Complex, melancholic, intricate, thoughtful... these are some ways I could describe Ribbon Fix's music, but to really experience it you will just have to listen to them yourself. It's a shame that none of the band's albums (aside from the Gathy Years EP) were released on vinyl. However the CD releases are all incredibly well packaged, each containing a signature ribbon and detailed lyric sheets. All of Ribbon Fix's releases are still available for purchase on Andi's Grafton Records website.
