Finger Print was a hardcore band from Paris, France who was massively influential to the French DIY hardcore scene in the 1990s. Their discography includes two 7"s, a discography CD and various appearances on compilations. Members of the band were also in Jasemine, Undone, Kiss The Bottle and Ananda. Christophe Mora was also the founder of Stonehenge Records which put out countless great releases including Ivich, Anomie, Amanda Woodward and all the Finger Print members' bands mentioned above.
Forming in 1991, Finger Print was one of the first to perfect the later named "emo" DIY hardcore sound and their influences can be seen throughout the rest of the decade, particularly in France. Their sound is abrasive, fast and heavy but includes a touch of softness and emotion that was completely lacking in other hardcore at the time. In the early 1990s mainstream hardcore was all about being tough and cool and beating each other up. It was pretty bold of Finger Print to challenge the norm and allow some actual genuine feeling into their music. I really respect the pioneers of the emotional hardcore sound because it was so different from the "mainstream" hardcore and they got some hate for it. However, they changed hardcore music for the better and sparked a whole new movement which paved the path for so many more bands to come.
Finger Print is definitely similar in sound to the other bands the members were in but Finger Print probably has the most extensive discography and also formed the earliest. In my mind Finger Print is just a staple of of 90s hardcore and a must listen for anyone interested in the genre.
