Melt - S/T 7" (1996)

Melt was an emo/post-hardcore band from Arras, France who existed only for a brief period in the 1990s and released one 7". The band flew under the radar even in the prominent french hardcore scene of the 1990s. There is unfortunately very little information about them around but they really deserve more attention.

Their 7" was released on Prohibited Records which released a 7" for the French hardcore band Pregnant and was founded by members of French emocore band Prohibition.

Their singular 7" puts the band's talent on display with their subtle mixing of loud screamed vocals and slow, moody, post-hardcore style instrumentals. They throw some lovely horns into the mix, which reminds me at times of Ivich or Alcatraz. Melt diverges a bit in style from a lot of the French hardcore of the 90s, in that they opt out of a fast paced, heavy sound and instead go for the slower, post-rock influenced sound. They remind me a little of Griver or Republic Of Freedom Fighters at times.

Despite their disappointingly small discography, Melt's 7" is an enjoyable listen that really makes you want more from them. I can't seem to find any info on the members of the bands or if they were ever in other bands so if you have any of this information please let me know!
