The Crownhate Ruin - Discography (1994-1996)

The Crownhate Ruin was a post-hardcore band from Washington, DC who were active from 1994-1996. The band was formed by members of Hoover after their breakup and also featured members of Admiral, John Henry West, 1.6 Band, June Of 44 and Abilene. Their discography includes one 12"/CD, 3 7"s, a split 7" with Karate and a 12" released in 2022 including their singles and early recordings.

The Crownhate Ruin played their first show just two months after Hoover had broken up, who were at the height of their popularity. The Crownhate Ruin's sound was born from the ashes of Hoover's, but they quickly moved into more complex instrumentals, varied and more complicated time-signatures and vocals that leaned slightly more toward the "emo" rather than hardcore. Their new sound did not immediately click with Hoover fans because despite their similarities, The Crownhate Ruin was moving in a new direction. As they played shows and released more music, they gained a following of their own.

Their 12" and "Intermediate" 7" being released on Ian Mackay's Dischord Records allowed The Drownhate Ruin to gain traction among fans of Fugazi and the DC post-hardcore scene. That being said, The Crownhate Ruin is now criminally overlooked. I'm always surprised at how many Fugazi, June Of 44 and even Hoover fans haven't heard of The Crownhate Ruin. Needless to say, they deserve a listen. Their 12" stands out as one of the best releases on Dischord in my opinion.
