Clikatat Ikatowi - Discography (1994-1997)

Clikatat Ikatowi were an experimental hardcore/emo band from San Diego, CA who were extremely influential. They were well loved in San Diego, but also throughout the whole hardcore scene in the 1990s. They were active from 1994-1997 and released an 12" album, 12" EP, 12" live album as well as a demo tape and a few compilation tracks. All releases except the demo tape were also available on CD.

Clikatat Ikatowi is by far one of the most interesting bands of this time, they had an incredibly distinct sound and didn't try to conform to any other style, but rather created something entirely their own. Their sound ranges from fast, loud and mesmerizingly chaotic to slow and spacey but regardless of what song you listen to they are incredibly tight and instrumentally impressive. Their drummer, Mario Rubalcabo never ceases to blow my mind with the incredibly complex and fast drum parts and the rest of the band somehow keeps up perfectly, without missing a beat.

I don't think I've heard any other band that sounds quite like them, they knew what they were doing and they did it exceptionally well. I love the mix of hardcore/emo sound with the slower post-hardcore/spacey elements and the spoken vocals in between the loud choruses. Clikatat Ikatowi certainly gained recognition for all of this back in the day, but I feel like they fly a little under the radar now. If you haven't listened to them yet, you're missing out!
