Guyver-One was an emo-hardcore band from San Diego, California who were active for a few years in the mid-late 1990s. Their discography consists of a self-titled 7", a 12" and discography that was released only digitally in 2008. They also appear on the compilation 12" "I Can't Live Without It".
Guyver-One has a very harsh, heavy sound consisting of loud, chaotic guitar, fast drums and hoarsely screamed vocals. They are considered an "emo" hardcore band but they're "emo" in the way that Angel Hair or Antioch Arrow is, rather than in the much softer way that Indian Summer is. Guyver-One is fast and angry and makes you want to move, but while still being more introspective and refined than your average punk or hardcore band. They have just enough of an attention to detail mixed with furious passion to make their music appeal to both the average punk who wants to get rowdy and to the person with a much more acquired taste.
The band took its name from the 1991 animated sci-fi film The Guyver, which was based on a Japanese manga series. They sample a part of the film that describes what a "Guyver" is in one of the songs on their 7".
Guyver-One's first two releases were on Inchworm Records along with some of the best punk bands of the 1990s including Shroomunion, Ordination Of Aaron, Indian Summer, and The Sky By Sorella.
