Jonah was a hardcore band from Les Saules, Quebec. Jonah was a frenzied and harsh hardcore band with a metallic edge that was associated with the excellent hardcore scene in Ontario and Quebec in the 90s. In their short active period they released a 7" and two split 7"s with Drift and The Weak Link Breaks. Some of these releases came out on the excellent Anima records that also released records by bands like Anomie, Constatine Sankathi and Agna Moraine's Autobiography. The name “Jonah” was taken from a character in the vocalists psychological studies book on split personalities.
Jonah melded the "emo-crust" style of Uranus, OEGP and Drift with a more traditional heavy hardcore sound to create their own excellent and unique spin on the trends in eastern Canada at the time. The track on the Weak Link Breaks split is a highlight and probably one of my favourite Canadian "emocore" tracks of all time.
