Amalgamation was a hardcore band from Washington, DC. The lead singer, Forbes Graham, ran the Rice Control label and is now a successful electronic/jazz musician. The band played an extremely spastic, experimental and shrieky brand of hardcore similar to split mates Jeromes Dream.
Amalgamation incorperated pretty much every element of the different subgenres of hardcore to create a jagged "amalgamation" of sounds. Low growls, harsh and shrill shrieks, blast beats, slow melodic "emo" parts and unconventional instrumentation (trumpet) make Amalgamation a truely unique and innovative listen.
The Left In Ruins split 12" was one of the first D.I.Y hardcore records I picked up and it really changed my perspective on what hardcore could be. This is a very formative and influential band to me and if you are a fan of experimental and chaotic hardcore, you should definitely check them out.
