Manumission - Discography (1992-1995)

Manumission was a hardcore band from Goleta, California who were active in the early to mid 90s. Their discography includes three 7"s, a split 7" with Los Crudos and appearances on two compilations. They had many drummers over the years including Jose Palafox of Swing Kids and Bread & Circuits, Sean Sellers of Jara and Downcast and Bobby Sell of Honeywell and Loomis Slovak

Manumission had a fast, harsh sound with brutal vocals and very politically driven lyrics. They have a similar sound to Jara or Struggle or other bands from the California area at the time, but they definitely stand out as having an edge of their own. Despite their fast, intense sound their songs are incredibly catchy and very well executed instrumentally.

Manumission had a clear goal in their music and that was to get their political messages across in the most powerful way possible. All of their releases include well written lyrics and inserts containing political ideals. Along with bands like Spitboy and Downcast, they really had a lot to say about the state of American politics. Politically driven bands to this level are hard to come by today, I hope that they will have a resurgence at some point.

The band played countless shows with many other great bands of the 90s including Indian Summer, Struggle, Man Is The Bastard, Heroin, Born Against, Los Crudos, Downcast, John Henry West and Econochrist.
