Loomis Slovak was a hardcore band from Claremont, California which included members of Honeywell, Man Is The Bastard, The Fisticuffs Bluff and Floodgate. Their discography included just one 7" and some appearances on compilations such as Ebullition's Heartattack #10.
Loomis Slovak left a mark on the hardcore scene despite their disappointingly small discography. Their music is loud and chaotic but very coordinated and complex using a multitude of time signatures and math rock influenced instrumentals. Their vocals mix softer sung parts that fade into the instrumentals and then shift to intense, harsh vocals screamed over the music. They perfectly balance groovy, intricate guitar riffs and drum rhythms with hard-hitting, hardcore vocals and absolutely chaotic breakdowns.
If you listen carefully to their 7", you can hear Black Flag samples played very quietly in between the songs. I'm always a big fan of samples and the homage to one of the arguably greatest hardcore bands of all time is pretty cool in my opinion.
Their 7" was released on Youth Strike Chord along with releases from Nuzzle, The Fisticuffs Bluff and Floodgate.
