Jara - Discography (1994-1995)

Jara was an emotional hardcore band from Goleta, California who existed for a few years in the 1990s. Members of the band were also in Downcast and Manumission. Jara released two 7"s and a split 12" with Still Life in their time together as a band. One of their tracks also appeared on two compilations, a cassette (with the live version) and a 7".

Jara had that classic mid-90s Ebullition "emo" sound that seamlessly melds fast, heavy hardcore with politically driven lyrics and high pitched shrieked vocals. Jara has such an intensity in their songs, you can hear the passion and anger behind the vocals and the powerful instrumentals. This type of hardcore is without a doubt one of my favourite sounds, the perfect mix of heavy and punk but not lacking reason for the anger. Not just hardcore to be tough, hardcore because the world needs to hear it and there's a lot to be angry at.

Their sound could be compared to many other bands of the time, definitely similar sounding to Manumission with whom they shared members but I'd also compare them to Frail or Iconoclast. Jara is just one of the staples of the mid-90s so called "emo" hardcore scene and they stand out as one of Ebullition's best, which is saying a lot. If I were to recommend a few bands to someone getting into this stuff, Jara would be one of them without a doubt.
