The Wolfnote - Discography (2001-2006)

The Wolfnote was a post-hardcore band from Edmonton, Alberta active in the early 2000s. They released two full length albums and four EPs, all on CD save for one split 7" with Searching For Chin and one 12". Members of the band were also in post-rock group, The Famines.

The Wolfnote started out strong, bending the genres that were prevalent in the Alberta scene at the time and creating a unique sound. They quickly gained a substantial fanbase, mainly rooted in the all-ages scene. They played on floors, equal to the audience rather than stages and had an intense, infectious energy at their shows. The Wolfnote uses bits and pieces of the sound of some early 90s bands like Native Nod, Maximillian Colby and The Red Scare, but with a fresh spin on it. You can also hear the sasscore influence in their work, making them comparable to bands like Black Eyes or the more contemporary Terrifying Girls High School.

The Wolfnote was part of a small but important (at least to me) scene within Alberta in the late 90s/early 2000s along with bands like Joule, The Corta Vita and Atticus. The all-ages scene is alive and thriving today across Alberta, but there is a bit of a lack in variety in terms of music. I'd love to see people bring back the energy and passion that the Wolfnote had.
