LigOD - Discography (1994-1997/2005)

LigOD was an emocore band from Kent, Ohio. Coming from the same scene that birthed a slew of excellent bands like Harriet The Spy, Grain and Armstrongs Secret Nine; LigOD was a creative powerhouse that unfortunately flew under the radar for nearly 30 years. I'm proud to say that after 2 years of me sending (most likely) annoying messages to a friend of the band I have finally got my hands on most of their material, clocking in at a whopping 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Previously, there was only a sped up crackly vinyl rip of their sole 7" available online. So now everyone is free to rejoice in the shredding, artistic and heavy presence of LigOD, in much higher quality! Starting off in 1994 as a much less refined screamy-artsy punk band along the lines of contemporaries Harriet The Spy; LigOD solidified their sound with every subsequent recording and came out as a creative and powerful band that brings to mind the work of bands like Rorschach, Slowsidedown and Guyver-One.

It's a real shame that LigOD broke up before the release of their ill-fated 10", I could tell immediately after I put it on that it was an instant classic. LigOD pounds out some crazy tracks with impressive instrumental interplay that brings to mind the controlled chaos of Harriet the spy, along with shrieking vocals, chunky guitar and pounding drums that is heavily inspired (but not directly copied) by the works of early metalcore bands like Rorschach.

The instrumental reunion jam sessions from 2005 are also nothing to scoff at, being more laid back, fun tracks that sound somewhere along the lines of Unwound and maybe even Purll. Jeff France also let me know that LigOD had a few early demos, but they were "mostly bad". Maybe we will see these digitized in the future but ultimately its up to Jeff! Anyways, I am proud to debut this material on CanadianWasteland and hopefully more people will catch on to the excellent band that LigOD is!

P.S. CanadianWasteland has slowed down a bit on the posting this year to focus on quality over quantity; we have been digging more and talking to band members to find unreleased/undistributed material and this can be a very long process. So, hopefully you will see more *new* old music hosted here soon, instead of stuff that was previously available elsewhere. (With an extra emphasis on Albertan and Canadian hardcore!)
