The Trikl Act - Discography (1998-2003)

The Trikl Act was a math-rock band from Calgary, Alberta that existed from the late 90s until the early 2000s. Members of the band were also in Waysiders and Cape May. They released one album on CD and had tracks appearing on two compilations, before splitting up and going on to form Cape May.

The Trikl Act had a very interesting sound that meshed complex math rock time signatures with a touch of slow-building post-rock. They sound very much influenced by bands like Slint but they put a unique, almost folky, touch to it.

I recently had the pleasure of exploring CJSW's (local radio station) archives and interviewing some employees for an upcoming documentary; which is how I discovered The Trikl Act, on a compilation CD. It's crazy to me how much I still don't know about Calgary's past music scene and how many great, almost forgotten bands there are waiting to be discovered. Though maybe not many will care, it's my aim to get some of these bands a little more attention because they deserve it! The Trikl Act really had a lot going for them, it's challenging to perfect that 90s math-rock sound, and there weren't many bands that even tried to in Calgary, yet they did it so well.

As a side note, I'd like to add that this is Canadian Wasteland's 200th discography post! That's a lot of band discographies and there's no better 200th post than a great and highly underrated band from our very own hometown. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support!
