Palatka was a hardcore band from Gainesville, Florida, formed by 5 University of Florida students in 1994. Members of the band also played in a few other bands over the years including True North, The Kelley Affair, True Feedback Story, The K. Shipley, Hope Springs Eternal and I Hate Myself to name a few. Jason Teisinger also went on to form the label Belladonna which put out countless great releases.
Palatka played fast, heavy-hitting hardcore with a distinct purpose and goal; "At the time of our inception we all had the same beliefs of a self-sustaining DIY music scene. We set up house shows, we played on floors and we booked our own tours." (LastFm). The band's shared passion for creating a DIY community was evident in the music they played, energetic and powerful. Though similar in many ways to the bands they toured with, Palatka has a distinct thrashiness to their sound that sets them apart slightly.
Palatka toured North America pretty extensively, playing shows with Assholeparade, The End Of The Century Party and Twelve hour Turn and even played some shows in Europe with In/Humanity. For a period, Kurt Burja lived in Europe to study abroad and Palatka changed their name to Ex-Best Friends and continued to play shows, then upon Burja's return they changed back to Palatka.
