Boy Wonder was a hardcore band from College Station, Texas. The band briefly united in 2016 and released a new album the following year with new songs and re-recordings of old ones. The Boy Wonder 7" was one of the first D.I.Y hardcore 7"s I ever picked up. I dug it out, without a cover or inner sleeve, from the now defunct 7" room at Recordland in Calgary. Needless to say those two songs really knocked my socks off. Boy Wonder utilizes elements of noise, math-rock and frenzied emocore to make a very cohesive and intriguing sound. The band is perfectly in sync and works very well together, while also having that classic mid 90s emo "about to fall apart" feel. The song "Sap" off the 7" is a great place to start with this band, it's mind numbingly intense with it's combination of throat shredding shrieks and abrasive guitar.
Just recently a commenter on the blog, Rob, sent me the audio files for the entire 7" session and it is just as good as the two tracks on the 7". Thanks Rob!
