Uranus - Discography (1993-1997)

(Union Of) Uranus was a hardcore/crust band from Ottawa, Ontario. In their active period Uranus released a 2x7", a split 7", a demo and a split 12" with His Hero Is Gone (who they shared members with). Uranus along with Drift, Jonah and One Eyed God Prophecy, helped create the "emo-crust" style that was incredibly popular in the eastern Canada hardcore scene. The band was one of the most innovative and fresh sounding Canadian hardcore bands in the 90s who inspired a huge wave of "screamo" bands after them to create similar music (Orchid, Kaospilot, June Paik etc..). My memory may be hazy on this but i'm pretty sure Orchid singer Jayson Green admitted to starting Orchid with the goal of them being a "Uranus ripoff band".

Uranus melded His Hero Is gone style crust with shrieked vocals to create an entirely unique and crushing sound. The drummer for this band was incredible and moved at a blindingly fast speed, staying completely in sync with the guitarists pummeling riffs. As with most of these legendary hardcore bands, i'm not sure what I can say that hasn't been said already. If you haven't heard this band yet and you are a fan of the 90s "screamo" genre, you need to listen up and hear what all the hype is about.

Funny Canadian story: I bought the 2x7" from a local store in Calgary and the guy at the counter went "Oh! I took the pictures they used for this one". He said Yannick was very fussy about them and wanted them to look "dirty".

(I am including my own rip of the track "Believer" because the one of the Discography CD is sub-par.)
