Wolves - Discography (2000-2004)

    Wolves were an emo/hardcore band from Massachusetts that were active in the early aughts. The band consisted of members of various other notable bands in the genre, such as Orchid, Ampere, The Last Forty Seconds, Ritual Mess and Transistor Transistor with whom they had a split 12"/CD. In addition to that split, they released one solo album, split 7"s with Sinaloa and Ampere, a 10"/CD EP, and a demo tape.  They played their final show in 2004 before splitting up due to members moving in different directions creatively. 

    Coming and going in spastic bursts of sound, Wolves never fails to perform when it comes to having the energy needed to drive forward, resulting in passionate sounding results. Wolves had an interesting style, combining elements of math and art rock within their decidedly hardcore-rooted attitude. Their vocals shift from slightly sassy to full-on shrill screams, providing a stand-out juxtaposition to their complex instrumentals. 

    Wolves had a distinctly catchy, rhythmic sound to their music that hooks you in immediately. Despite not shying away from the experimental, I would say they are a very easy band to get into. They remind me, at times stylistically, of The Red Scare with both their instrumentals and vocal style. 

    Wolves is quite different from Ampere or Sinaloa, despite sharing members with both, Ampere and Sinaloa move further into the dissonant, heavy and chaotic sound while Wolves is a bit more reminiscent of The Last Forty Seconds, who predate Wolves.
