Waifle - Discography (1997-2001)

Waifle was a hardcore band from Woodridge, VA who were active in the late 90s to early oughts. They released a lot of music in their active years, including splits with The Anasazi, Pageninetynine and more. Brent Eyestone was the founder of Magic Bullet Records and was also a member of the band Corn On Macabre with members of Enemy Soil.

Waifle was strongly politically driven and outspoken about their values and reasons for creating the band. In their 1998 track "Introrigin" they speak about what hardcore means to them versus what it has become (competing for who is the toughest) and about the origins of emo as meaning "emotional". Their vocals are harsh and raw and their instrumentals are tense and full of feeling. They lean slightly more into the heavy side, on some releases more than others, but they also have the telltale melancholy guitar riffs and emotionally dense vocals.

Despite having a split with Pg.99 and playing over 100 shows, Waifle remains underrated in comparison. They were one of the standout bands of the late 90s in my opinion, really driving forward with the political issues brought up in the earlier years, that were beginning to go forgotten.

Waifle's sound evolved over time, their first full-length album The Music Stops, The Man Dies (1998) sounds distinctly more refined and "emo" than their 10", And The Blood Will Come Down Like A Curtain (2000) which heads in the direction of heavier, more classic hardcore. I love all their work but the early stuff is what really sticks with me and makes them stand out.

*if anyone has a rip of the Waifle - Hell Night CDr, we would love to hear it!*
