The Anasazi - Discography (1999-2002)

The Anasazi was a chaotic emo-hardcore band from Santa Cruz, California. The band featured members of Mohinder, Makara, Jenny Piccolo and Yaphet Kotto. Their discography includes a 12"/CD and a split 5" with Waifle.

The band had a chaotic, experimental sound with harsh, shrieked vocals paired with incredibly fast drum rhythms and noisy guitar. They had such an intense, powerful sound that exuded pure rage and nervous energy, the fast-paced intensity broken up only by bits of experimental noise in between tracks. I would say they remind me a little bit of Honeywell sometimes with their complete and utter chaos and refusal to follow conventional instrumentals. They could also be compared to Makara with whom they share members with but something about The Anasazi stands out to me a lot more.

Their 12" is double sided but interestingly side B is just the A side played in reverse. I personally love when bands do things like this, maybe they're gimmicky but hey why not reverse your album just for fun? It reminds me of the insert from the Merel / Iconoclast split 7" that can only be read in a mirror.

Unfortunately The Anasazi didn't last long or put out much content but they sure did rip through the hardcore scene and left behind some great work.
