Spitboy - Discography (1990-1995)

Spitboy was an all female, political hardcore band from San Francisco, California. They were active for 5 years in the early 90s and released a pretty extensive amount of work. Their discography includes a 12", a split 12" with Los Crudos, three 7"s, a compilation CD, a Body Of Work 12" including all songs they recorded and a demo tape. They also appeared on countless compilations throughout the 1990s.

Spitboy is one of the coolest, most genuinely punk bands to come out of the 90s. They had so much passion and so much to write about and share with the world. Their lyrics and the inserts in their 7"s are a huge inspiration to me and had a huge part of inspiring me to write a zine about some of the political issues they bring up. All four members of the band did vocals in addition to playing their respective instruments creating a really interesting sound. They do a lot of overlapping vocals and mix sung, spoken and screamed vocals, sometimes all at once for a really powerful sound that I have never really heard replicated.

Spitboy brought up women's/femme presenting individuals issues up that has been deemed too taboo to discuss let alone scream in a band about. What I really respect about them is how they carved their way into the very male dominated hardcore scene and left a lasting mark. Being a woman in hardcore isn't always easy or enjoyable which I know from personal experience.

Members of Spitboy were also in Full Boney and Instant Girl which were a bit more on the heavier hardcore side than their work as Spitboy. Instant Girl in particular is really great and is a project that doesn't get spoken about enough.

If you haven't already, the booklets and inserts that come with their releases, scans of which will be posted below, are really worth reading. Their political messages and poignant lyrics and artwork still ring true today. The messages they wanted to get out there are really valuable in my opinion and are ideas that I want to put forward in the art that I make as well.

Note: Not even close to all of the compilations they appeared on will appear in this post because most of them don't have good scans available or have no info directly relevant to Spitboy. However if you want to look into that, there is a list on Discogs that includes them all.
