Arroyo Seco - Discography (2002)

Tye Kruger

Arroyo Seco was an emo/hardcore band from Portland, Oregon that consisted of members of Life At These Speeds before it was formed. They only ever released one demo tape in 2002 in the time that they existed before breaking up and going on to play in Life At These Speeds. An unreleased session was recently unearthed in 2024 featuring 2 previously unheard songs

Despite only releasing a demo tape and being criminally underrated, Arroyo Seco had a very distinct sound that really stands out to me. It sounds very raw and passionate and the vocalist sounds at times like he's on the verge of crying. The band isn't dissimilar stylistically to Life At These Speeds but Arroyo Seco just feels so much more powerful and aggressive. Life At These Speeds cleans things up a little bit and has a more polished sound, but I prefer Arroyo Seco for their heavier, more emotionally driven sound.

Arroyo Seco quickly became one of my favourite bands when I listened to their demo and I couldn't believe I'd never heard of them before. Apparently they were supposed to release a split 7" with The Pine but devastatingly, it never happened. Tragically, Arroyo Seco came to an end when Tye Kurger passed away. It seems sometimes the best bands have the least amount of recorded material, Weep, Anasarca, Tetsuo and Symptom Of Isaac come to mind.
