Makara - Discography (1997-2001)

Makara was an emo/hardcore band from Cupertino, California who were active in the late 1990s. Their discography consists of two 7"s, a split 10" with Shahrazad and a discography CD/12". Impressively, the band features members of Jenny Piccolo, Mohinder, The Anasazi, Ruhaeda, Welcome The Plague Year and Yaphet Kotto.

Being the amalgamation of so many talented individuals that Makara was, it could only result in something great. Makara played extremely brutal emo style hardcore with abrasive female vocals and highly distorted, noisy guitar and bass. Kerry Jo-Pries' vocals are some of the heaviest, most aggressive female vocals I have ever heard, while different stylistically, maybe even up there with Jackie Kerzner of Coleman (though I'm not sure anyone can compete with her).

Despite including members of so many highly respected bands, Makara flies a little under the radar for some reason. Its definitely a band worth checking out. I always love to see femme fronted hardcore of any kind and Makara is a great example of such.
