Agna Moraine's Autobiography was a hardcore/emo band from Kalamazoo, Michigan who were active in the late 90s. The band featured members of Constantine Sankathi, My Own Pine Box, Bev. Clone and Bombs Lullabye. Their discography included a demo tape, a 7" and a split 7" with Rentamerica. Their 7" appeared on Anima Records, alongside Jonah, Drift and Anomie.
All band members shared the task of vocals, but they were mainly handled by James McInerny. The mix of different voices, sometimes overlapping made for an interesting sound. Their husky, screamed vocals are raw and powerful and lead the instrumentals rather than vice-versa. The instrumentals are relatively quiet, they use a lot of soft indie/emo guitar riffs in between outbursts of loud hardcore choruses. Their songs alternate between incredibly soft and quiet, sometimes with spoken vocals, and loud raw sounding eruptions of sound. They are definitely one of those bands that walk the line between "emo" and hardcore in a way that honestly works perfectly.
Their 7" comes with a selection of patches with artwork and their lyrics to their songs printed on them which is one of the coolest ways I've seen a band share its lyrics. If you ever come across that 7" I'd suggest buying it just for the patches if nothing else (though the 7" itself is incredible too).
P.S. If anyone knows who Agna Moraine is, I'd love to know!
