Constatine Sankathi - Discography (1994-1996)

Constatine Sankathi was a hardcore band from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Geez, where do I start with this one? Constatine Sankathi were one of the weirdest, most visceral, chaotic, experimental and downright gut wrenching hardcore bands of the 90s. Every song they released was packed full of dark, seething anger and emotion. They spawned a wealth of other great bands after their demise and left a lasting impact on the shape of hardcore in the mid-late 1990s. The band toured at a break neck pace during their active period; sharing stages with pretty much every other notable band of the time and featuring on some incredible compilations.

I love the use of trombone in their songs, it works so much better than one would think and doesn't come off as gimmicky. Particularly in the song "I Am An Android"; the pure, unfiltered angst of this song never fails to get my blood pumping. If you are a fan of 90s "emocore" and you haven't listened to this band yet, you are seriously missing out on some of the best material in the genre.

Currently the former members of Constatine Sankathi run a podcast called "I Am Not Actually A Gas Station Attendant", this podcast will have more insight on the band and its offspring (Agna Moraine's Autobiography etc) than I will ever be able to give. I highly recommend checking it out if you want to know more about the band and the scene in Kalamazoo at the time.
